European Heart Agency

The European Society of Cardiology's Office in Brussels

History

"Cardiovascular Disease (CVD) is the biggest killer in Europe, with a huge impact on the economy. It is our belief that public policies must be put in place to encourage its prevention. We have come to Brussels to be more active in the decision-making process.” - Professor Panos Vardas

The ESC opened the European Heart Agency in Brussels in February 2013, close to the European Parliament complex, as it is of vital importance to the ESC’s future to establish a base in the political capital of Europe.

Establishing the Brussels office is a very strong demonstration of the ESC’s determination to influence policies for the prevention of cardiovascular diseases with a presence at the centre of European politics.

  • Science is not enough to stop the cardiovascular disease (CVD) epidemic.
  • Fifty percent of CVD deaths could be prevented with proper policies.
  • In light of the growing CVD burden, policies need to focus on primary prevention

From here, the members of this new facility will try to influence relevant aspects of policy and shape new projects that take us towards our mission of reducing the burden of cardiovascular disease.
Apart from efficient secretarial support to all members, the Brussels office can accommodate board meetings, scientific events, webinars, and also meet a significant number of other needs.
